Think Globally, Act Locally

In January 2010, President Obama announced the National Export Initiative (NEI) with the goal of doubling exports over the next five years. It is estimated that 95 percent of the world’s customers are located outside of the United States. Therefore, the NEI is both a timely and logical effort to help improve our economy.
A misleading statistic that I have heard repeated lately is that only 1 percent of U.S. small and mediumsized businesses currently export. I fear that to some businesses this statistic validates their apprehension to venture into export markets.
